Generally, it is a three year program for those who possess a bachelor’s degree but integrated LLB courses like BA LLB, BCom LLB, BBA LLB,etc. can be done in 5 years after completion of 10+2 in any stream. LLB through distance education is available in India but Bar Council of India (BCI), does not approve LLB degree obtained through distance education. Which means you cannot practice as an advocate after completing LLB through distance education. Course fee of LLB through distance education can vary between INR 35,000 to INR 80,000 per year. Eligibility Criteria :
To get admission in the LLB distance program, you should have completed a graduate degree from a recognized university. Some institutions may ask for a minimum of passing percentage between 40%- 50%. The Bar council of India (BCI) does not accept LLB degrees from distance education, due to lack of practical experience. So, you are not required to pass law entrance exams like CLAT. For integrated LLB programs like BA LLB, BCom LLB or BBA LLB, you should have completed your 10+2 from a recognized board like CBSE, ICSE or any state board with at least 50% marks in any stream.
Is distance valid for LLB ?
LLB from distance is available in India. Many universities are offering LLB from distance education for educational purposes only. Professionals who are interested in only gaining knowledge about the legal field, and are not interested in practicing law as an advocate, can pursue LLB from distance education. Bar Council of India (BCI), which regulates legal education and legal practices in India, does not recognize LLB through distance education for practicing law.
